Future of podcasting

May 27, 2005

In other news, keep your eyes on the future of podcasting as influenced by one of the big players in IT – Apple. Rex is on the ball here noting how Apple could run way ahead of the game here. I’ve noted in his comments that podcasting isn’t just audio anymore, and since iTunes just had a video upgrade it is well placed for both audio and video podcatching / podcasting. I wonder if they’re buying out Brent? Would that be how they’re adding it all in?

Boost your Brain!

May 27, 2005

New Scientist have an article called ‘11 steps to a better brain

I’m pretty sure I could gainfully implement all of these techniques. I have certainly been subjected to a great deal of stress lately and have noticed my concentration has deteriorated accordingly.

High interest bank accounts for children

May 25, 2005

Argh. The so-called professionals do it again … I realise this is the first time I’ve written about this, but it is an old theme of Scripting News and just won’t go away.

What is the problem? A well respected newspaper published some clearly incorrect facts three days ago – these are still incorrect on the web edition of the story. I have just sent the following note to the newspaper using their online submission process, but don’t really expect to get much by way of an answer in return …

Debra quotes Pavlo Taranenko of Cannex about high-interest accounts for children – pointing to the Citibank Online Cash Manager and writing : “… is open to all ages …”

The problem is that the Product Disclosure Statement for that account *very* clearly states in the eligibility section (point 3) “3. You must be 18 years of age or older.”

Is anyone checking their facts anymore? These accounts are a bugbear for me as I’ve been unable to locate a high interest account that is available for children. It is frustrating to be given false hope from people who should know better!

Thr original story is titled This little piggy bought shares … teach kids finance, the product in question is the Citibank Online Cash Manager and the information came from Cannex who describe themselves : “Cannex is an independent Financial Services Research Group and provides specialist services to Australia’s 350 plus financial institutions, government departments, media and finance professionals”

Well they aren’t doing much of a job if they can’t even read a Product Disclosure Statement properly!!

[Edit] 27 May 10:45am : Well I received a canned response from the newspaper ‘ReaderLink’ department today, including a tracking number! Well spin me around and I’ll face North!

What the kids are doing these days…

May 16, 2005

I find I am resisting more and more the latest and greatest online. By that I mean I still haven’t started using an RSS reader to keep up with the blogs that I like reading. I haven’t got a http://del.icio.us/ account, I’ve only just joined Flickr and so on.

Now some would say I am still running out there on the bleeding edge of technology, but I know that I am slowing down. The good news is that others who are in front of me who reckon nothing good happens before you’re fifty.

That’s a comforting thought, especially when my ‘crowd’ have the big four-oh looming on the horizon.
