New AppleScript Training

Here’s a new AppleScript training course – with a few chapters freely available. Maybe these will finally help me get the hang of this powerful, but for some (like me) frustrating tool.

    Here is a cooler Applescript to generate passwords. Not mine but cool:

    on makePW()

    set pw to {}

    set end of pw to some item of “ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz”

    repeat 12 times

    set end of pw to some item of “ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890`~!@#$%^&*()_+-=[]>?;:'”

    end repeat

    return (pw as string)

    end makePW

    set answer to “Redo”

    repeat until answer is not equal to “Redo”

    set userAction to display dialog “Here is your password. You may edit it as necessary.” default answer (my makePW()) buttons {“Cancel”, “Redo”, “Copy to Clipboard”} default button 3 with icon 1

    set answer to button returned of userAction

    if answer is equal to “Copy to Clipboard” then set the clipboard to (the text returned of userAction)

    end repeat

    That looks great – works fine on 10.6 (as long as you replace the so-called smart double-quotes with regular double-quotes)

    Thanks for sharing!
