Blogging from the classroom

When I was asked to : “Describe ONE thing school principals can do to facilitate positive change in the way students experience ICT in the classroom.” I found I had a bit to say.

Even more surprising, I do believe I have not as yet aired this idea. This was my reply :

Publish a (public facing?) school blog consisting of highlighted items from the classroom blogs which are themselves highlight blogs of the student’s in that class. Almost any schoolwork can be blogged – utilising text, audio, still or moving pictures almost anything can be captured to share. Students will get a buzz when their work is chosen to be shared at any level, from inside the classroom to the whole school community and perhaps even the wider community.

In summary – have the kids blogging from as early as possible. Teachers then choose a few posts to share from their class to the principal. You, the principal then choose some of those to share more broadly on a regular basis. Use the hierarchy to keep the workload to a sensible amount at each level.
